Emperor Carolus XIII (birth name: Carolus Ioan Fridaros Alffo Albaros Consteynnos eui Zor-Mako-Vasa-Nassau), often nicknamed Carolus the Young, is the current Emperor of the New Sarovian Empire and Her Colonies and Dominions. Born in 306 AS, Carolus XIII is the grandson of Emperor Constantine IX who reigned from 275 AS to 311 AS. Carolus was second in line to the throne but, upon a private meeting of the Privy Council, his father His Imperial Highness the Prince of Kiev renounced his rights in favour of his son. Carolus gained a legal degree with a specialisation in Sarovian constitutional law from Falkenholm College, and in late 310/311 AS, gained a commission from his grandfather as an Honourary Major of the Imperial Guard Infantry Regiment (No.3 Grenadier Guards) and Honourary Field Marshal of the Imperial Sarovian Army.

Biography

Early Life

According to longstanding Sarovian traditions and customs, Charles was named after three relatives - Charles after Constantine IX Vasa, John after his father, and Frederick after Constantine VI & I Vasa. He inherited his title of Duke of Sorrel from his mother. In 308 and 309, he was given further names as per Sarovian traditions. His full name is Carolus Ioan Fridaros Alffo Albaros Consteynnos eui Vasa (Charles John Frederick Alfonso Albert Constantine of Vasa). He is not yet the age of majority.

Falkenholm College

Early reports indicate the child is receiving a civic and martial education from Falkenholm College and the Kiev Staff College. In 310 AS, he got his degree at Falkenholm College in Law, and took another exam for the Bar to become an official lawyer specialising in Constitutional Law. He currently serves as an Honourary Officer of the Blue Guard Corps.

Titles, styles, honours and arms

Titles and styles

Upon ascension to the throne, many Peers believed he would be "Carolus XIII", as his first name was Charles. Instead, he took the name of his most recent ancestor monarch.

Constantine IX has gone by many different titles and styles depending on the realms in which he was part of. In each of his realms, colonies and dominions, Constantine had a distinct title that follows a similar formula that includes the realm's title, such as King of Carolusburg, Philippia, etc. In his Sarovian style, all titles Constantine possessed within member states of the Sarovian Commonwealth were featured. Constantine had many more titles than that throughout his life, which were often "reduced" out of his official title and style into auxiliary positions to keep it much simpler. The Imperial Styles Act mandated that his title be:

His Imperial, Royal, and Most Stefanic Majesty, by the Grace of Stefan, the Holy Graalian Emperor, King of the Sarovians and Emperor of the Sarovian Commonwealth, Grand King of the State, King of Reuss, of Nassau, of Philippia, of Metternau, of Carolusburg and of the Oxerians, Patriarch of the Vasas, Nassaus, Makos and Zors, and Defender of the Faith.

Coat of arms

As the Duke of Sorrel, Carolus XIII' arms were that of the House of Vasa, differenced by a white label befitting an heir and three Vasa roses. They were granted to him by his grandfather and his godfather, Constantine IX Vasa. Through the virtue of being the King of the Sarovians and the Emperor of the New Sarovian Empire, Carolus XIII was the source of all heraldry and symbols through during his reign and bears the arms of New Sarovia. However, depending on the Sarovian Dominion or other united country he finds himself, his arms will reflect the country in which he represents at any given time. In matters of cross-country importance, Carolus XIII uses his personal arms which are those of the New Sarovian Empire and are defaced by the arms of Mako-Zor.

Banners, flags and standards

Carolus XIII used the various royal and imperial standards that are used to represent his various titles, both within and outside of the countries on foreign visits. The Imperial Standard of New Sarovia takes precedent over all others, and is to only be used when the Emperor is attending an event personally. This convention is followed for all other banners and standards as well based on his capacity: for example, Carolus attending a meeting as the King of Carolusburg would fly the Carodian Royal Standard rather than the Imperial Standard.

Cyphers and monograms

Carolus XIII has only had one monogram. There are examples of Carolus XIII's monogram with both the Imperial Crown and the St. Charles Crown, but Leda Palace has made it clear that only the St. Charles Crown is to be worn when in New Sarovia or within the Sarovian Colonies or Dominions.
