Abbreviation:

FM

Formation:

2017 (Modernity)

Current Holder:

John, Prince of Kiev

The Field Marshal (FM), or also called Marechal eui Impir is the highest rank in the Imperial Sarovian Army as of 2017. A five-star rank, it is equivalent to First Sea Lord in the Imperial Sarovian Navy. Field marshals traditionally remain officers for life, although they receive half pay and perks when they are not on duty or retire. The post has been used sporadically throughout its history and has been vacant for parts in 2022 (when Field Marshal Ärle Kaine was removed from his position).

In all of Sarovian history, only 14 men and women were given official commissions as a Field Marshal, excluding two disputed holders of the office, and excluding honorary appointments. If those numbers are included, the total rises to 18. A Sarovian Field Marshal is given the right to wear a unique uniform, including a special Field Marshal’s baton as a symbol of office, a retirement gift of 3,500 Saros upon retirement, the right to marshal batons in their heraldry, the post nominal “FM” and more. The first holder of the office Marshal Sarolus, the namesake of Sarovia, and second in command to Carolus X Zor. The first modern holder however was the 1st Duke of Poltava, Sevirax Vasa in 2017, great great grandfather to the current Lieutenant-General of the Guards.

According to the Sarovian National Defence Act of 2020, The Field Marshal of the Realm is a position appointed by Tel Majis Imperialò, do Royo y Imperad to serve a period of three months (90 days). The Field Marshal of the Realm is the highest military rank in the entire Imperial Armed Forces, and holds massive influence and command over their respective units, as well as colonial units. They are awarded their Marshal’s Baton - their symbol of authority.

In 311 AS, with the accession to the throne of Carolus XIII, he was the last officer to be promoted to the rank, assuming the position of Honorary Field Marshal.

Insignia of rank[edit | edit source]

The insignia of an Imperial Sarovian field marshal comprises two crossed staffs in a wreath of laurel leaves, with a crown above. Upon appointment, Sarovian field marshals are given a gold-tipped baton which they can carry on formal occasions.

List of field marshals[edit | edit source]

The vast majority of officers who held the rank of field marshal were professional soldiers of the Imperial Sarovian Army. Most Marshals served in several wars, and were injured in battle.
