The First Sea Lord of the Realm and Chief of the Admiralty is a statutory position in the Imperial Sarovian Armed Forces, usually held by a four-star admiral. As the highest-ranking officer serving in the Imperial Sarovian Navy, the chief is the chief military advisor on matters relating to the Navy and deputy to the Secretary of State for Defense. In a separate capacity, the FSL is a member of the Chiefs of Staff Committee, and therefore military advisor to the National Security Council, the Prime Minister and the Crown. The First Sea Lord is normally the highest-ranking officer on active duty in the Imperial Navy, unless the Chief of the Defense Staff is a naval officer. Admiral John Vasa was appointed First Sea Lord in 2023. Additionally, in certain cases, the Monarch may assume the rank of First Sea Lord.
In addition, the equivalent rank of First Sea Lord is Field Marshal in the Imperial Sarovian Army. The First Sea Lord is an office appointed by His Imperial Majesty, the Emperor, to serve as a direct subordinate of His Imperial Majesty, the Emperor, and responsible for the organization of the Imperial Sarovian Navy. In the entire history of the New Sarovian Empire there have only been 2 people appointed as First Sea Lord. A Sarovian First Sea Lord is granted the right to wear a unique uniform in the Imperial Navy, including a special First Sea Lord staff as a symbol of office, the right to First Sea Lord batons in their heraldry, the post nominal "FSL" and a lot more. The first holder of the office of First Sea Lord was John Vasa, Prince of Kiev, who served as the longest-serving First Sea Lord in history. Furthermore, under John Vasa as First Sea Lord, the Imperial Sarovian Navy along with the Admiralty at the time, was able to defeat the Aurean Empire at Ostos, thus ending the era of Aurean hegemony.
Responsibilities[edit | edit source]
The First Sea Lord is the professional head of the Imperial Navy and a member of the Defence Council. He is responsible to Secretary of State for the fighting effectiveness, efficiency and morale of the Naval Service. As a member of the Defence Council, the First Sea Lord supports the Secretary of State in the management and direction of the Armed Forces through prerogative and statutory powers. As a member of the Chiefs of Staff Committee, he advises the Aldmiralty on maritime strategy and policy. He has a collective responsibility for providing strategic direction to the department, managing performance and ensuring that defence delivers the required outputs.
