The Field Marshal of the New Sarovian Empire (formally known as the Field Marshal of the Realm, Field Marshal of the Empire or Marechal do Império) is the highest rank in the Imperial Army of the New Sarovian Empire. Appointment to the rank of Field Marshal in the New Sarovian Empire usually required an extraordinary military achievement by a general (such as a wartime victory), though the office slowly became more of an institutional head. Likewise, the holder of the position of Field Marshal is given immense perks and benefits.
In all of Sarovian history, only 13 men and women were given official commissions as a Field Marshal, excluding two disputed holders of the office, and excluding honorary appointments. If those numbers are included, the total rises to 17. A Sarovian Field Marshal is given the right to wear a unique uniform, including a special Field Marshal’s baton as a symbol of office, a retirement gift of 3,500 Saros upon retirement, the right to marshal batons in their heraldry, the post nominal “FM” and more. The first holder of the office Marshal Sarolus, the namesake of Sarovia, and second in command to Carolus X Zor. The first modern holder however was the 1st Duke of Poltava, Sevirax Vasa in 2017, great great grandfather to the current Lieutenant General of the Guards.
According to the Sarovian National Defence Act of 2020, The Field Marshal of the Realm is a position appointed by His Imperial Majesty the Emperor to serve a period of three months (90 days). The Field Marshal of the Realm is the highest military rank in the entire Imperial Armed Forces, and holds massive influence and command over their respective units, as well as colonial units. They are awarded their Marshal’s Baton - their symbol of authority.
